Bronte Country

This ruined farmhouse high on the moors above Haworth is thought to be the location of the Earnshaw home in Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights.  The ruin is within walking distance of Haworth and is popular with Japanese literary tourists, some of the footpath signs in the area are in Japanese as well as English.

  1. This looks great. You will have to go back later in the year for a few updated versions of this view.

  2. Now how did I guess that this scene would appeal to Steffe. From the portal it reminded me of his season-tree.

How do YOU feel about the signs being in both languages? We have that here all around our Opera House.

The Japanese have a lot to contend with at this very moment.

  5. Steffe - Will try same view in each season.

Julie - It's fine by me if it helps Japanese tourists. What intrigues me is why the Japanese are so interested in English literature, in particular the Bronte sisters. Will have to ask next time I'm in Haworth.

  6. Nice photo. I was in Haworth this last week, they still have the postcards with Japanese descriptions on them. I have a longstanding Japanese pen-friend who loves English literature but especially Austen and the Brontes.

  7. Japanese on the footpath signs - not seen any of those although I've not been up those moors for more than a decade now.

  8. Looks so empty and barren, but rich with literature!
