Sea Cadets - Centenary Square

Sea cadets this morning gathering in Centenary Square to mark the two hundred and twentieth anniversary of the battle of Trafalgar.  There were over one hundred and seventy cadets from various parts of West Yorkshire and Harrogate in the town centre.  To be honest I didn't know this event was taking place and came across it purely by chance whilst out on a Saturday morning bike ride.  The cadets were to march up to the Cathedral for a church service and then back down to the town centre around lunchtime.

St George's Day Parade 2013

Scouts marching from Centenary Square along Market Street on their way to Bradford Cathedral for a special service to mark St Georges Day, possibly for the last time.  The event has been marshalled by the police for many years but due to financial constraints the scouts will have to pay for marshalling from their own funds from now on, which may mean there will be no parade at all next year.

St Wilfrid - Ripon

A solemn looking St Wilfrid about to turn the corner into the market square at Ripon. I had to abandon picture taking at this point as the rain was just too heavy, there was still quite a crowd waiting to see the procession pass through the square, and I did manage to catch up with St Wilfrid a little later when the rain eased off.

St Wilfrid's Feast Procession - Ripon

Not Bradford I know, but I thought you might like to see some pictures of the annual St Wilfrid's day parade in the cathedral town (oops, city) of Ripon which lies about thirty miles north of Bradford.
The cathedral at Ripon is dedicated to St Wilfrid and the parade is led by an actor playing the part of the Saint on horseback, followed by musicians, dancers and colourful floats.  The parade lasts around three hours as it zig-zags its way through the narrow streets until it finally arrives at the cathedral where a special St Wilfrid's Day service is held.

Two White Horses

Following on from yesterdays post, two white horses and carriage at the head of the Naqshbandia parade as it leaves Tile Street.

This beautiful white horse took part in the Lord Mayors Carnival Parade last week.  The owner of the horse was also at the Naqshbandia Parade the previous week although I did not immediately recognise him as he was wearing a coachman's uniform at that event.  I will post a picture of the carriage and horses in a day or two.

Civic Service Of Thanksgiving

Mayor of Bradford Naveeda Ikram in a procession heading for Bradford Cathedral on Saturday morning.  After a Civic Service of Thanksgiving the Mayors procession then  joined the carnival parade and the festivities in the town centre.

Mortal Orchestra - Carnival Parade

These giant musicians and opera singers took part in the Mayor's Carnival Parade yesterday, sixteen foot tall and quite impressive I thought, these two youngsters weren't too sure though, they didn't seem to want to go any closer.

Lord Mayor's Carnival Parade - Bradford 2012

Over 1300 schoolchildren took part in the Lord Mayor's Carnival Parade today.  The theme this year was the Queen's Diamond Jubilee so there was plenty of red white and blue on show.  I took this picture from the top of the pavilion as the head of procession made a circuit of the mirror pool and then proceeded to the city centre via Centenary Square.

Naqshbandia Mosque Parade 2012

A parade took place through the streets of Manningham on Sunday organised by the Naqshbandia Mosque in Tile Street.  The procession is an annual event and can be seen here turning into Victor Road with Manningham Mills in the background.  The Mosque is very keen on community relations and is also the base of a charity which supports activities such as Intercultural Football Tournaments and a deaf youth club.

St. Patrick's Day Parade - Leeds

I'm a bit off my patch here, in the city of Leeds for the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade. It's the first time I have been to one of these parades and I was quite impressed at how colourful it was. The parade started in Millennium Square and passed through the centre of Leeds before returning to the Square for an afternoon of Irish themed entertainment and, er, the consumption of much Guinness.

Milad un Nabi - Lumb Lane

A celebration and parade took place yesterday in Bradford to celebrate the birth of the prophet Muhammad. Thousands of Muslims took part in the parade, some arriving by coach from Preston and beyond. Gifts of food and drink were distributed at various points along the route which passed through the streets of the Manningham area. The chap in pink in the centre of the photograph (Pir Sahib) is an important Muslim cleric, and was, I beleive, the main guest.
