Kumi Choi at Bradford Cathedral

An organ recital by Swiss based South Korean born artist Kumi Choi at Bradford Cathedral today.  The young (born 1990, young compared to me) and highly acclaimed organist played pieces by JS Bach, Pierne, Karg-Elert and Saint Saens.  I'm no expert on the Church organ but it was certainly an impressive performance to my ears.  

Organ Recital - Bradford Cathedral

An organ recital today at Bradford Cathedral by the organist of Beverley Minster Robert Poyser.  The recital finished with a magnificent Symphonic Improvisation by Mr Poyser.  The Cathedral hosts a regular Wednesday at One organ recital with an optional buffet lunch preceding the performance, details are on the Bradford Cathedral website.

This side of the Cathedral is usually in shadow, it's North facing, I don't think I have a picture at all with any sunlight on it.  Taken at the weekend when we had a couple of sunny days.

The Hunchback Of Notre Dame - Bradford Cathedral

This picture was taken last Friday when I made a short visit to Bradford Cathedral.  The large screen had been erected for a showing of the 1923 version of the Hunchback of Notre Dame accompanied by the cathedral organ, which I imagine would have been quite impressive in the darkened cathedral.  The flowers were left over from an autumn flower festival which had been held the previous week.

Civic Service Of Thanksgiving

Mayor of Bradford Naveeda Ikram in a procession heading for Bradford Cathedral on Saturday morning.  After a Civic Service of Thanksgiving the Mayors procession then  joined the carnival parade and the festivities in the town centre.

John Smyth Memorial Tablet - Bradford Cathedral

The upper part of this tablet on the wall of Bradford Catherdral is a memorial to John Smyth who died in 1686, his wife, and their ten children. All the names of the children are recorded on the tablet but Thomas gets a special mention 'a merchant at Dantzic and buried there'. I don't know why he gets a special mention, maybe it's because he was the favourite son, or possibly because he died abroad, as I say, I don't know. Another thing that puzzled me a little was that the family came from Miryshaw, not a place name that I was familiar with. I did a little digging around on the Internet and found a mention of Miryshaw as a farm just above the Barkerend area of Bradford, it's now covered in Victorian terraced houses but was probably open farmland back then.
