Skyride - Manningham Lane

Roads between the town centre and Lister Park were closed to traffic during the Skyride event on Sunday.  I wouldn't normally recommend cycling along Manningham Lane with young children, but on Sunday it was actually a pleasure to ride along this normally very busy route out of the city.

Samuel Cunliffe Lister - Lister Park

This white marble statue of Samuel Cunliffe Lister stands in Lister Park. Lister was a wealthy mill owner who played a key role in the development of the textile industry in Bradford, he also donated land for the construction of Manningham Park, or Lister Park as it is also known as.

Manningham Parade

     A parade was held today through the streets of Manningham to celebrate the birth of the prophet Muhammad.  Participants from as far away as Bristol travelled to Bradford to take part in the parade which started outside of the Jamia Naqshbandia Islamic Centre in Tile Street, Manningham.  I was invited into the mosque after the event, the first time I have ever been inside a mosque, and was also kindly given a meal (the first time I have ever eaten anything that wasn't a Yorkshire Pudding or a Pork Chop, honestly!)  So a day of firsts, really.

Manningham Lane

     This is Manningham Lane, one of the main routes into the city. The building in the centre is the old Yorkshire Penny Bank, to the right and just out of shot is one of those dreadful shed type retail parks, and on the left is the fairly modern and rather handsome Sovereign Healthcare Building.
