Memorial Wall Dedication Ceremony

The Bishop of Bradford led a service of  dedication for a new memorial last Saturday.  The memorial, a wall bearing the names of thirty  men and women from the Bradford area who have given their lives while serving in the armed forces since 1947 stands in a small garden close to the existing war memorial.  The service was attended by friends and family of the fallen, local dignitaries, the Royal British Legion and quite a large crowd of the ordinary people of Bradford.

Members of the Royal British Legion at the Bradford Pals Memorial Service yesterday morning.  The service is held every year in memory of the Bradford Pals, soldiers who were recruited from the Bradford area during the First World War, who then trained together and ultimately died together. Over 1700 were either killed or injured on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.

Royal British Legion - Flag Raising Ceremony

Members of the Royal British Legion were taking part in a flag raising ceremony this morning in Centenary Square.  The flag raising event, which takes place throughout the UK and overseas marks the beginning of a week leading up to Armed Forces Day on Saturday 30th June, and is aimed at raising the awareness of the contribution made to the country by former servicemen and those currently serving in the armed forces.  I'm hoping to attend the Saturday event in Centenary Square where there will be a drumhead service.
